Money Maker @ Publix next week! Order coupons now and do a good deed too!

Next week at Publix (beginning February 10th) Hartz Crunch N Clean Dog Biscuits will be BOGO for $2.99

There were $2.00 off 1 in the January 9th paper.

So buy 2 for $2.99 use 2 $2.00 off coupons and make $1 on each deal!  Whoot!

If you don't have a dog, you can still do this deal and donate the treats to an animal shelter or my personal favorite, the senior citizen center.  The elderly sure do love their pets and on a limited budget this would be a great Valentine's project for a group or classroom!

I ordered 30 of these coupons tonight from Mycouponhunter.com!  Roscoe will be a happy dog!

Consumer Math: Price Comparing Winn-Dixie and Publix

There seems to be a great deal of people who believe that they can't shop at Publix because they don't have much money!  Ha!  While I would never recommend buying items at Publix that are not on sale, they do have the hands-down best prices on Buy One, Get One Free deals in our area.

Here's a quick comparison on items that both Publix and Winn-Dixie are advertising in their flyers this week.

Pace Chunky Salsa 16 oz jar (Both stores are BOGO)
Winn-Dixie: $3.29 for two
Publix: $2.79 for two

Mt. Olive Pickles, 16 to 46 oz jars (Both stores are BOGO)
Winn-Dixie: $3.79
Publix: $2.79

Knorr Side Dishes, Assorted Varieties
Winn-Dixie:  10 for $10 or $1.00 each
Publix: BOGO for $1.29 or $0.65 each

Rotel Diced Tomatoes
Winn-Dixie:  10 for $10 or $1.00 each
Publix:  BOGO for $1.39 or $.69 each
Wal-mart:  $.88 each

Nabisco Crackers (BOGO Both Stores)
Winn-Dixie:  $3.69
Publix: $2.99

Hungry-Man Frozen Dinners (BOGO Both Stores)
Winn-Dixie:  $4.39
Publix:  $3.59

So if I went to each store and bought 4 of each item I would pay (without coupons)
Winn-Dixie:  $36.42
Publix:  $29.68

If you saved that much each week by going to Publix you would save over $350 in one year!

CVS: $.49 per bottle Xtra Laundry Detergent!

This is confirmed to be available in Starke!  Here's how to get your $.49 per bottle laundry detergent (28 load size).

First, go to Family Dollar. Go to the back of the store where the laundry detergent products are.  You will find a blinkie machine giving out $1.00 of any Xtra laundry product.  Get some coupons!  Leave with a smile!

Next, take your blinkie coupons to CVS.  Get your buggy loaded with Xtra and head to the checkout.  Have them scan your CVS card, ring the detergent, and then hand over your coupons.  Pay $.49 plus tax for each.

My sister and I each bought 4 bottles tonight for a grand total after our Extra Care Bucks (ECB) of $.73 for all of them!  That's $.003 cents per load!  Practically free!

Enjoy!

I know that all (5) of you who are reading this blog are probably pretty new at the couponing game and need some step by step help to "test the waters" so to speak. So here are some easy deals to do at Publix. This assumes that you have no newspaper coupons yet and can print some printables.   These deals end on Wednesday, January 26th.

Since these rely on printables and most of them you can only print twice per computer you will be picking up the quantities listed below.  IF you can print more or you have newspaper coupons go here to find all the deal match-ups!

To buy list:

Look for some $.55 off 1 Blinkie coupons in front of the hall's cough drops.  Get these to use today.

Pick up 4 bottles of Sundown Vitamin D bottles.  These are the cheapest Sundown item usually costing $2.99 per bottle.  Now if you are a vitamin taker, get whatever you need but if you don't really take vitamins you are getting these because they are free plus overage that will apply to your other items!

While you are in the store look for Blinkie coupons.  There should be some near the Uncle Ben's rice and the Orville Redenbacher Popcorn.  Both of these will be BOGO next week so go ahead and pick up the blinkies now.

Good Deals at Publix

If you are planning to stop by Publix this weekend here are a few "extra good" deals my sister and I found last night.  We did some serious damage to this store and left with three buggies full for $260!  Afterward we headed to Winn-Dixie for some BOGO meat deals and the Special K cereal deal.  We spent $85 there.

All of this should feed 11 people over the next 15 days plus we stocked up on cereal, juice, and frozen food to last awhile.  All told it should equal about $2 per day for each person in our families.

Good Deals:

Ocean Spray Juice is on sale for $2 each.
Use  2 Competitor Coupons from Walgreens Monthly coupon booklet for $1 off any Ocean Spray Juice.
Final Cost $2 for 2 Juices and a bag of grapefruit
Value: $10.35

2.  Jennie-O Turkey Bacon unadvertised BOGO @  $2.79
In front of the bacon there is a blinkie coupon for $.55 off 1.
Use 2 coupons and pay just $.85 for each pack.

3.  Kraft Singles on sale for $2 each pack.
Print these coupons for
$1 off produce when you buy Kraft Singles and
$1 off Publix Produce when you buy Kraft Singles
Use a Walgreen Competitor coupon for $1 off when you buy 2 Kraft Singles

Consumer Math: What is an acceptable food budget?

Since before the beginning of the new year I have been thinking, no obsessing over what is an acceptable food budget for our family.  We have now been a family of 8 for a little over 3 months.  We have a mommy, a daddy, two teenage girls, 1 preteen boy, 2 preteen girls, a preschooler and a dog.

The US Department of Agriculture says that on a "thrifty plan" should expect to spend around $1200 per month.  That figure was determined by the 2009 chart and I know prices have risen since then.  Umm, that's a second mortgage people!  And there is no way on two teacher salaries we can afford that!

Most people have no idea what they spend on food per month but I would guess from talking with people and teaching couponing classes that the average family spends about as much on food as they do their house payment.  The reason more people aren't appalled by the amount they spend on food is because they don't have to write out one check per month for it.  A quick trip to the grocery store here, run into Walmart there, McDonalds drive-thru once or twice per week. . . it all adds up to big money.

I would like to aim for half of the USDA recommendation or $600 per month.  Just figuring $1 per meal for 8 people for 30 days equals $720 so $600 is going to be quite a challenge.  I don't know if I can do it but I'm going to try.

Here's what I'm counting:
grocery shopping
fast food
dining out
health and beauty products
paper products
dog food and treats

Here's what I'm not counting as "spending" money:
Gift cards I'm given or earn through rebates or rewards
Extra Care Bucks spent at CVS
Register Rewards spent at Walgreens
Birthday Parties or other parties since it is part of that specific budget

I hope to update my spending totals each week and then monthly to see how close I can get to the $600 mark!
